Join us for some fun this June by watching films either made in the 1960’s or set in the 1960’s. First up will be the 1964 Bond classic, ‘Goldfinger’ on June 6th followed by director Guy Ritchie’s 2015 film, ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ that is set in the early 60s on June 13th and last, the only pairing of Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn in the 1963 film ‘Charade’ set in Paris and other locations in the 60s on June 19th.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015)

Rated PG-13

Starring: Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki and Hugh Grant

The plot centers around an unlikely duo during the Cold War era of the 1960s as the US and Russian governments collaborate to combine CIA agent Napoleon Solo and KGB operative Illya Kuryakin on a mission to stop a dangerous international criminal organization with ties to former Nazi Germany. They’re both used to working alone and on opposite sides of the East-West divide, so the two don’t take to the arrangement all that well, but as they start to uncover the mysteries of the criminal organization and their plans to rupture international stability by distributing nuclear weapons and technology, they’re forced to put their significant differences behind them.

For anyone not up on their 1960s TV show knowledge, U.N.C.L.E. stands for United Network Command for Law and Enforcement, so they’ve got a lot of might behind them, but from the outset, their only clue to follow up on is the daughter of a German scientist linked to the plot. If they can use her to get in on the international arms race deals that are bubbling away to stop them before the relatively weak global political stability is compromised then they might stand a chance of saving the world together.
