The Streets of Detroit

Thursday, September 156:30—7:30 PMMeeting RoomHamburg Township Library10411 Merrill Road, Hamburg, MI, 48139

Join local historian Joe Oldenburg for a discussion about how Detroit's streets were named.  When Detroit was founded in 1701 it had only 3 streets, all named after saints. There are now 2306 streets in Detroit. Many have mundane names or names created by developers like our subdivisons today. But other street names tell the history of the city, names of Presidents, land owners, politicians, civil rights icons, soft drinks, and one man whose name is memorialized in a cemetery’s name today.

At this time masks are not required for in-person events, however, we do encourage anyone to wear one if it will make them more comfortable to attend an in-person event.

Doors will open at 6:25 pm for this event.
