Michigan has 129 of them, but how do they work? Join us to shed light on the latest advancements in navigational aids and maritime safety. This informative session will explore the evolution of lighthouses from traditional structures to modern, technologically advanced beacons. From the early use of lenses and mirrors to the incorporation of electricity and automation, the lecture will highlight key milestones and innovations that have shaped the history of lighthouse technology. 

Andrew Kercher has a degree in History and Philosophy from Albion College and a MS in Historic Preservation from EMU.  He has worked at museums around the state, living around the straits of Mackinac for nearly a decade.  Kercher currently lives in Port Huron.
